We will miss our champion. He brought us as a family a lot joy, laughter, happiness and priceless moments. He will live on in our memories. I will miss the trips with my father to go and visit him at Summerhill. I would like to thank the entire Summerhill team for the great care and love they gave him over the years. A very special horse!
May God Bless and keep him! RIP Champ! God bless all his connections in taking Great care of him and caring. Great people.

What a great racehorse! A true champion.
Aw dear. Senor Santa was an incredible racehorse! And has legions of fans… I am definitely one of them! And PJ certainly has some big shoes to fill in the “weanling babysitter” role! My thoughts are with everyone at Summerhill. I know he was loved by absolutely everyone there, himans and horses alike! Enjoy your gallops in the big green paddocks in the sky Santa xx
So sad! He is a legend and loved by so many! One of my absolute favourites. I had a horse by his full brother Senor Mex. RIP special boy xxx
RIP Senor santa. I also owned a very special horse by his brother senor mex, he was my equine soul mate gone too soon.
RIP Champ, you brought us many goose bump moments, trophy’s and memories. Glad I got to see you some years back and to show my daughter the best horse her Grandpa ever rode. Go well.
Farewell to an amazing champion! You started my love of horse racing and i will never forget you, may you continue galloping in the fields above…
Always remember the match race in December 1989 with Northern Princess. Great memories. Great race at the tail end of his career in the 1993 Computaform Sprint with Jeffrey Lloyd at his best!!
Joanne Patricia Gardner
Such a champion RIP old chap !!!!!
The problem with getting old is the number of friends that you have lost.
RIP boy - you will always be a true legend!

Love the pic at top left with a whole herd of kids under his chin.

What a great innings he had and well done Summerhill on giving him the retirement he deserved.
Rip old boy!! You were such a cuty!
I hope Royal gets to live as long as this legend RIP Senor Santa!
It would be great if tellytrack could put together an insert on Senor Santa’s successful career as a Tribute to him. It would be a fitting and respectful way to bid him farewell.

It is so good for us to know that these horses are loved, respected and cared for until their end. Thank you from a follower of all things Summerhill from Zimbabwe.

May he gallop freely.
So sad. RIP.

RIP Senor Santa… laid to rest today at the ripe old age of 29. A superb racehorse and an equally good ‘babysitter’ to hundreds of weanlings over the years at Summerhill Stud.

Agreed DUNCS - astute judge you are - most Phenominal turn of Foot I’ve yet to witness. One of S.A’s greatest ever!
What a loyal servant. RIP champ.
Didn’t know the horse but I know the floating trophy. Rest well after all your amazing races.
Beverley Ann Sterrett
Remember him so well. RIP Senor Santa. Such a shame more champions and ordinary racehorses don’t get the same retirement this good soul did.
I had the pleasure of working with him with Willie Peters still have not seen a horse with a turn of speed like him RIP champ.
One of my favourites. What a wonderful life he enjoyed to the end.
Brilliant racehorse!! Special old horse!! Causing chaos in Heaven running around at the speed of light.
Sad to hear that the old boy has died but what an amazing innings he had! Senor Santa was by Northern Guest out of Mexican Charm, by Mexico. He raced for over 5 seasons for over R1.7 Million and was Champion Sprinter twice and ARCSA Champion 2 year old colt in 1987. He retired back to his farm of birth, Summerhill Stud, where he was baby-sitter for countless weanlings! A legend!
A legend and what a happy retirement. Well looked after and in turn he looked after the babies. RIP.
Janine Von Zeuner
Sounds like a Black Beauty story. I wish all horses had happily-ever-afters like he did. RIP old boy. Xx
RIP old man
I remember him well. A legend! RIP sweet old man!
I remember him well. RIP old man. He was a very striking boy in his day!
Aaaaah how sad. Great horse… he had a good innings though. Glad i saw him at Summerhill last year.
Our pictures today are of Senor Santa, very early in his career. Senor Santa passed away this week at the ripe old age of 29, at Summerhill Stud, where he was happily living out his last years. Senor Santa was a more-than-a-very-good sprinter, winning Grade One races between 1000 - 1600 under regular riders Gavin Howes and Jeff Lloyd. He raced until 8 before retiring (as a gelding, he held the job of ‘babysitting the weanlings’ at Summerhill). : http://on.fb.me/1nYpI0x
RIP Senor, may you run with the best of them in the green pastures in the sky,you did while you where here. Condolences to everyone
My biggest thrill in racing was when he won the FNB 1600m at Turffontein beating rolland song RIP champ.
