(Galileo - Zarinia)

The former South African Horse of the Year and multiple Champion Igugu will embark on her second career as a broodmare with a visit this spring to leading sire Dansili.

The daughter of Galileo carried all before her in a South African career which yielded ten victories from a dozen starts, eight of which at Group level. An historical first ever winner of the coveted Triple Tiara, she went on to score a resounding victory in the Grade 1 Vodacom Durban July and, despite an interrupted preparation, ended her local career with a courageous victory in the 2012 Grade 1 J&B Met. Sadly, she failed to regain that level of form in an overseas campaign compromised by hormonal problems, her best effort a third in the Grade 2 Balanchine at the 2013 Dubai World Cup Carnival.

Bred in Australia, she was purchased for an even million from the Summerhill Stud draft of the 2009 Emperors Palace Ready to Run Sale by co-owner Andre Macdonald. Following her runner-up effort to Ebony Flyer (Jet Master) in the Grade 1 Avontuur Estate Cape Filies Guineas, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum purchased into the filly, and she carried his silks for the remainder of her career.

Out of the unraced Zarinia (Intikhab), Igugu traces to the remarkable racemare Petite Etoile, ancestress also of the Aga Khan’s Champion Zarkava (Zamindar) and French Oaks winner Zainta (Kahyasi).
