Giants CausewayGiants Causeway (Coolmore)There’s a good deal of excitement surrounding the Group Two Dingaans, which marks the Highvelds opening salvo as far as major Guineas pointers are concerned. This race brings together the two unbeaten three year olds, J.J. The Jet Plane and Lubricator, whilst yet another son of Giants Causeway, Hamlool, carrying the silks of Sheikh Mohammad from Mike de Kock’s stable, makes up an awesome threesome. Don’t forget, before they can count themselves over the line, they’re going to have to contend with a horse we were left with from last year’s Ready To Run, Imbongi, who didn’t get the best of runs in the R500 000 Emperor’s Palace Ready To Run Cup, where he was a fast closing second behind Umngazi. Imbongi will no doubt be the stable’s second choice (he also goes out for Mike de Kock), and Saturday will tell us where he stands in relation to the best of his age.

We’ve yet to speak to Mike about his form or that of Emperor Napoleon, whose had only one start back since his wind operation following the Daily News in May, so the latter’s wellbeing will have to be taken with a measure of trust, while it’s obvious he cannot be expected to be at his absolute top. More on that later.
